Buying it, and when not to

The TES7002 is a 2-port GPON OLT. Two PON ports is the realistic starting point for an operator who is past the trial stage: one port for the first splitter tree and one in hand for the second street, or for keeping a business customer separate from a residential run.

This is the sensible head end for a first real deployment - an estate, a market line, a cluster of buildings, a small ISP taking its first dozens of subscribers onto its own fibre instead of reselling somebody else's. The capital outlay is small enough to recover from early subscriptions while leaving a clear upgrade path.

If you are testing a single splitter run and want the cheapest possible entry, the TES7001 does the same job on one port. If you can already see where two hundred subscribers are coming from, buy the 8-port TES7008 now rather than replacing the head end in a year and re-terminating everything. Either way, price the full build: an SFP transceiver such as the TM5 per PON port, splitters, patch cords, and an HG-series ONT or SG04E ONU for each subscriber. The OLT alone connects nobody.
