Buying it, and when not to

The TES7001 is a single-port GPON OLT - the cheapest honest way to put your own fibre head end into service. One PON port feeds one splitter tree, which with normal split ratios is enough to serve a street, a block of flats or a market line.

This is the unit to buy when you want to stop paying somebody else for last-mile delivery and start owning it. It is also the right tool for a pilot: terminate one run, sign a handful of subscribers, prove the economics with real money coming in, and only then commit to a bigger chassis. For a small operator, that sequencing is the difference between growth and a stranded investment.

It will run out of room. If the plan already has multiple streets in it, the 2-port TES7002 or 8-port TES7008 saves you a forklift upgrade and the re-splicing that comes with it. And as with any OLT, the chassis is the start of the bill, not the end: you need an SFP transceiver such as the TM5, a splitter, drop fibre and patch cords, and an ONT at every subscriber - the HG1 for a simple single-port drop, the HG6, HG10 or HG15 where the customer also needs WiFi.
