Buying it, and when not to

The TEG1110PF-8-120W gives 9 gigabit ports plus an SFP slot, with PoE on 8 ports and a 120W budget. For small commercial installs this is close to the ideal switch.

Eight gigabit powered drops at 120W is enough for a real site: three or four ceiling access points, a few cameras, an intercom, with headroom rather than a calculation that only just works. The SFP slot means the uplink can leave on fibre, which matters when the switch is in an outbuilding, a gatehouse or a different floor from the router. For a guest house, a clinic, a two-floor office or a small hotel, this single unit is usually the whole distribution and power layer.

For one or two powered devices it is more switch than the job needs and the TEG1105P-4-63W is cheaper. For sixteen or more drops, go to the TEG1120P-16-150W or TEG1120P-16-250W rather than chaining switches. If the drops are all low-power fixed cameras, the fast-Ethernet TEF1110P-8-63W saves real money and will not be noticed. And if the customer needs VLANs, per-port control or remote visibility across sites, the cloud-managed TEG2220P-16-250W is the direction to move in.
