Tenda 4G06 — N300 Wi-Fi 4G VoLTE Universal SIM Card Router

Buying it, and when not to

The 4G06 is an N300 Wi-Fi 4G VoLTE universal SIM card router. Universal is the useful word: it is built to take a SIM from the carrier that actually works at the address rather than tying you to one network. VoLTE support means voice over the LTE network is part of the design rather than an afterthought.

This is the fixed-premises SIM router for sites where there is no fibre and no realistic prospect of it - a shop on a street with no build, a site office, a flat where the landlord will not allow a cable, a backup line that must come up when the main feed drops. Mains powered with a proper internal radio, it holds a signal far better than a pocket unit left on a windowsill.

Its WiFi is single-band N300, so a household with several streaming devices will feel the limit even when the LTE signal is good. Where the device count is higher, the 4G08 gives AC1200 dual-band for not much more. If the customer is mobile rather than fixed, the pocket 4G180 is the right shape. And if fibre is available at the address, sell the fibre - no SIM plan in Nigeria competes on price per gigabyte for a household that actually uses the connection.
