Buying it, and when not to

The TEG5328P-24-410W is an L3 managed PoE switch with 24 PoE ports on a 410W budget. It is the most capable switch in this catalogue: it routes between subnets and it powers the devices plugged into it.

This is the single-box core for a serious building where you do not want a separate routing layer and powering layer. A hotel, a campus block, a large clinic, an ISP aggregation point: VLANs for staff, guests, cameras and management, routing between them in hardware, and 410W of PoE feeding twenty-four access points or cameras directly. Fewer boxes in the rack means fewer failure points, one UPS to size, and a simpler diagram for whoever supports it after you.

It is substantial money and it deserves a design behind it. If nobody needs routing between subnets, the cloud-managed TEG2228P-24-410W gives the same ports and power with simpler management for less. If nothing needs powering, the TEG5328F is the L3 switch without the power stage and is noticeably cheaper. For a small site, this is several classes above the requirement. And as with any 410W unit, size the inverter and UPS for a fully loaded switch at quote stage rather than discovering the shortfall on commissioning day.
