Tenda G0-8G-PoE — 9-Ports Gigabit Ethernet PoE Router

Buying it, and when not to

The G0-8G-PoE is a 9-port gigabit PoE router: the same gateway idea as the 5-port model with room to grow. Nine ports is the practical size for a real small-business install - WAN in, a few access points, a couple of cameras, a POS terminal and a desktop, all cabled, all powered where PoE is needed, from one box on one UPS.

This is the unit to specify for a small hotel, a clinic, a two-floor office, a school block or a serviced building where you want to stop dragging power adaptors into ceilings. One device to mount, one device to power-protect, one device to reboot when a customer rings. Fewer things in the rack is fewer things that fail.

If the site only has one or two powered devices, the 5-port version does the job for less. If you are heading past nine drops, stop treating the router as the switch: put a TEG1110PF-8-120W or TEG1120P PoE switch behind a router and keep routing and distribution separate - it is easier to fault-find and cheaper to expand. For multi-site customers who want remote visibility, look at the cloud-managed G500-F or the TEG2000-series switches instead.
