Tenda G0-5G-PoE — 5-Ports Gigabit Ethernet PoE Router

Buying it, and when not to

The G0-5G-PoE is a 5-port gigabit PoE router, and it is a different animal from the home routers above. It is a gateway: it sits at the edge of a small commercial network, routes, and feeds power down the Ethernet to the access points and cameras hanging off it. That removes the injector-and-adaptor pile that makes small installs look untidy and fail intermittently.

Use it for a shop with two or three ceiling access points, a small hotel floor, a church hall, or a cluster of market stalls on one feed. Powering the access points from the same box that routes them means one UPS keeps the whole site alive, which in Nigerian conditions is the difference between a site that rides out a dip and a site you drive to.

It is a small gateway, so do not design a forty-device site around it - the G0-8G-PoE gives you more ports for not much more money, and a separate PoE switch behind any router scales further still. If the site needs no PoE at all, you are paying for a feature you will not use; a plain router plus a TEG switch is cheaper. And if the job is specifically hotspot billing with vouchers, confirm the feature set against the W30E before you promise it.
