Tenda U11 — AX900 Wi-Fi6 Wireless USB Adapter

Buying it, and when not to

The U11 is an AX900 Wi-Fi 6 wireless USB adapter. It is a step above a nano stick: AX900 class means dual-band Wi-Fi 6 rather than the basic single-band performance of the cheapest adapters.

Use it where a desktop or an older laptop has to do real work over WiFi - a workstation handling files on a server, a design machine, a point-of-sale computer that cannot tolerate dropouts, a desktop in an office with a Wi-Fi 6 router already installed. Pairing a Wi-Fi 6 adapter with a Wi-Fi 6 router also takes that machine off the crowded 2.4GHz band, which improves life for every other device in the room as well.

If the machine only needs email and a browser, the W311MI is a fraction of the price of this and will not be the limiting factor. If the machine is close to the router and the work is heavy, Ethernet is better than any adapter and usually cheaper than both - run cable where you can. If you want a slightly more capable version of the same thing, the U11 Pro sits just above this. And if the real problem is weak signal at the desk rather than the machine's radio, fix the WiFi: an extender, a mesh node or a ceiling access point is the right purchase.
