Tenda TEG2220P-16-250W — 18GE+2SFP Cloud Managed Switch With 16-Port PoE

Buying it, and when not to

The TEG2220P-16-250W is a cloud-managed switch with 18 gigabit ports and 2 SFP slots, PoE on 16 ports, on a 250W budget. Managed, powered, fibre-capable, sixteen drops.

This is the switch for a managed service. A hotel floor, a school, a multi-tenant office, an estate - sixteen gigabit powered drops with a 250W budget that will carry real access points, two SFP slots for fibre uplinks, and a cloud console so you can see the site without being on it. For anyone selling maintenance rather than just installation, that visibility is the product: you find out a port is down before the customer rings, and you can separate staff, guest and camera traffic without a site visit.

For a site nobody will manage remotely, the unmanaged TEG1120P-16-250W is the identical port and power configuration for less money. For four or fewer powered drops, the TEG2206P-4-63W is the right size. For twenty-four drops, step to the TEG2228P-24-410W. And if the requirement is actually inter-VLAN routing, static routes or a network core rather than managed access, this is still an access switch - the L3 TEG5328F or TEG5328P-24-410W is what that job needs.
