Tenda O1-5G (2pack) — 1km 5GHz 9dBi ac 867Mbps Outdoor CPE

Buying it, and when not to

This is the O1-5G supplied as a two-pack: two 1km 5GHz 9dBi 11ac 867Mbps outdoor CPEs, which is what a point-to-point link actually requires. One unit at each end, aimed at each other.

Buy the pack rather than two singles whenever you are building a link from scratch - a connection across a compound, from one building to another, from a gatehouse to a main house, or from a shop with service to a shop without it. Having both ends from the same batch also makes pairing and alignment simpler, and the packaged pair is the cheaper way to buy two radios.

Buy singles instead when you are replacing one end of an existing link or adding a client to an established base station. For links beyond about a kilometre, or on paths where rain fade and alignment drift need headroom, use the longer-range O3S, O6 or O9 pairs - specifying a 1km radio for a 1km link leaves nothing in hand. For obstructed paths with trees, the 2.4GHz O3 penetrates better despite being slower. And for giving WiFi coverage to people outdoors rather than linking two points, the OAP1200 is the correct product.
